Carolyn “Mollie” Lassiter Burgess

COURTLAND, VA – Carolyn “Mollie” Lassiter Burgess, 71, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011.

Mollie was born in Suffolk, VA, one of 18 children of the late Ernest Linwood and Ruth Rogerson Lassiter, and was also predeceased by her first husband, James Thomas Parker. Sr.

She was a member of Vincent Grove United Methodist Church. Mollie’s love for singing moved her to start the choir at her church where she sang for many years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, J.M. “Jimmy” Burgess; daughter, Jeannie P. Ginn and husband, Harvey, of Aulander; son, James Thomas “Jimmy” Parker, Jr. and wife, Amy, of Ahoskie; two brothers, Paul Linwood “Pete” Lassiter of Ahoskie and Joseph  Alton “Joe” Lassiter of Wilson; and Jimmy’s children, Joey Burgess and wife Connie, Barry Burgess and wife Jane, Perry Burgess, Dale Burgess and wife Patricia, Todd Burgess and wife Brenda, Jenny Bunn and husband Blair, Teresa Gibbs and husband Jonathan; and grandchildren, Autumn Ginn, Joseph Ginn, Emilee Parker,  Trey Parker, and Jimmy’s nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, VA with the Rev. Steven Vornon officiating. The interment will follow at Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery in Gates County.
