Jossie Liverman Lassiter

WOODLAND – Jossie Liverman Lassiter, 106, of Walnut Street in Woodland departed this life on Friday, November 25, 2011 at her residence.

She was born to the late Tommy and JoAnna Liverman in Menola, NC on November 3, 1905. She joined Second Baptist Creeksville of Murfreesboro at an early age and remained a faithful member until her demise.

She was united in marriage to the late Tommie Lassiter in 1919 and to this union 10 children were born.

Due to her longevity she received many awards and proclamations.  On November 3, 2005 at the age of 100, the Town of Woodland set aside a day and named it “Mrs. Jossie Lassiter Day” and she had the honor of riding in a parade as the Grand Marshal.  On November 3, 2006 at the age of 101, she received a letter of recognition from Senator Elizabeth Dole.  She also received a letter of congratulations from NBC Universal Studios from Willard Scott. She also received a letter of recognition from President George W. Bush on November 2, 2006.  At the age of 105, on November 19, 2010, she received a letter of distinction from President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama.  She received numerous letters and acknowledgements from others.  On November 3, 2011 she celebrated her 106th birthday surrounded by her loving family and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommie and JoAnna Liverman; husband, Tommie Lassiter; her children, Margaret Lassiter and James Lassiter; her son-in-laws, Rice Deloatch, Robert Reese, Rudolph Boone and Walter Moore; her granddaughters, Erick Lassiter, Charlotte Carter and Jean Boone; her grandsons, Elton Lassiter Jr., Tyrone Lassiter, Charles Lassiter Jr. “Blue”, and James Reese; great great grandsons; her great great granddaughters; sisters, Rachel Reid, Queenie Everette, Bettie Vaughan, Lula Vaughan and Mollie Lassiter; brothers, Cecil Liverman and Zernie Liverman; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She leaves a legacy of love and to cherish her memory: her sons, Elton Lassiter (Debbie), Garry Lassiter (Marie) and Curtis Lassiter (raised as a son {Sherri}, all of Philadelphia, PA, Richard Lassiter (Mary) of Conway, and Bruce Liverman (special nephew); daughters, Helen Deloatch (late Rice), Mable Boone (late Rudolph) and Gladys Reese (late Robert), all of Conway, Maryann Moore (late Walter) of Philadelphia, PA, Julia Williams of New York, Linda Lassiter (raised as a daughter) of Philadelphia, PA, and Hazel Boyce (a special person that made it possible for her to live at home who became as a daughter to her) of Woodland;  55 grandchildren, 103 great grandchildren, 40 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Second Baptist Creeksville Church of Murfreesboro with the Rev. Anthony Rawlings Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
