MURFREESBORO – It didn’t take the Murfreesboro Police Department very long to solve an alleged financial crime.

Less than one hour after the report was received, Murfreesboro Police arrested Mark A. Leyda, 31, of Vinson Mill Road, Murfreesboro, and charged him with 18 felonies involving the alleged theft of a debt card.

Murfreesboro Police Chief Darrell Rowe said Leyda stands charged with six counts each of obtaining property by false pretense, identity theft and financial card fraud.

Leyda was placed in the Hertford County Jail under a $150,000 secured bond.

Rowe said the report was taken at 4:05 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17. MPD Captain Chris Sumner and MPD Officer David Griffith immediately investigated the case. Leyda was identified by the victim as the possible suspect and the arrest was made at 5:02 p.m. the same day.

“I’d like to praise both my officers in this case as they made an arrest in less than one hour,” Rowe said.
