Evelyn M. Ayscue

KELFORD – Mrs. Evelyn M. Ayscue, age 92, died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.

She was born and raised in Bertie County and has lived there all her life.  She was married to Richard L. Ayscue in 1942 and to this marriage was born six children.

Mrs. Ayscue was a member of the Kelford Baptist Church.  She worked in the lunch room at the West Bertie Elementary School for twenty-three years, retiring at the age of seventy.

Mrs. Ayscue was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.  She loved to keep house and cook for her family.  She will be greatly missed by her family and those who knew her.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Richard L. Ayscue, Sr.; sisters, Alma Harrell, Mayble Mizelle and Bessie Terry; and brothers, Lonnie and Fleetwood Mizelle.

Surviving are her four daughters, Peggy Bailey and her husband, Edward, of Ahoskie, Jeanette Tinkham and her husband, Eddie, of Aulander, Lillie Hall and Bonnie Strickland both of Kelford; two sons, Richard Ayscue, Jr. of Rich Square and William Ayscue and his wife, Sue, of Woodland; two brothers, Delk Mizelle, Jr. of Windsor and A.J. Mizelle and his wife, Jean, of Windsor; nine grandchildren, Lynn Baugham, Eddie Bailey, Bryan Ayscue, Robert Tinkham, Kristy Bracy, Dawn Ayscue, Kellie Whitcher, Richard Strickland and Andrew Tinkham; eight great grandchildren, Shaun Ivey, Samuel Ivey, Krystal Bailey, Wyatt Liverman, Joeb Whitcher, Landon Bracy, Jordyn Bracy and Hannah Whitcher; and one great great grandson, Caleb Ivy.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Kelford Baptist Church in Kelford with the Rev. Doug Spivey and the Rev. H.C. Boschen officiating.  The interment will follow at the Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kelford Baptist Church, 103 E. Church Street, Kelford, NC  27847.

The family will receive friends at Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square on Friday evening from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
