Two face drug charges

Two more Bertie County men have been charged in connection with illegal drugs.

Johnnie Jones, 83, of Green Cross Road in Windsor and Donald Ray Blount, 27, of Bell Street in Aulander have been charged by the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office.

Jones was arrested following an undercover operation this summer. He allegedly sold perco and morphine tablets at his home in the Windsor area. The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office and Windsor Police Department worked together in the investigation.

He was arrested Oct. 20 and charged with three counts of the sale and delivery of a schedule two narcotic and maintain a place, dwelling or vehicle to keep a controlled substance.

Jones was placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $25,000 secured bond.

Nine days earlier, Blount was arrested for possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession with intent to sell and deliver crack cocaine.

He was placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $15,000 secured bond. His first appearance was Oct. 19. Bertie County Sheriff’s Det. Travis Askew was the arresting officer.

“Our efforts are continuing,” Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said. “Drugs are a problem we intend to solve. We ask that our citizens continue to help us and support us in this effort.”
