COLERAIN – A Colerain man accused of burglarizing a residence near his home is now behind bars.

Alvin Eugene Jenkins Sr., 23, of Meadow Road in Colerain was arrested and charged by the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office with breaking into a home on the same road.

Bertie County Sheriff Deputy Dan Flores investigated the breaking and entering and charged Jenkins on Oct. 23 with first degree burglary and larceny after breaking and entering.

Jenkins was placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $25,000 cash bond. He had his first appearance on Oct. 27 and remains behind bars.

“I’m pleased with how quickly Deputy Flores was able to conduct this investigation and charge the suspect,” Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said. “We are going to do everything we can in cases like this to move quickly and catch the culprit.”
