Richard Tabb Evans Jr.

MURFREESBORO – Richard Tabb Evans Jr., age 73, of the 100 Block of Holly Hill Road, Murfreesboro, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

He was born October 19, 1937 in Hertford County, a son of the late Richard Tabb Evans Sr. and Louise Whitley Evans.

Mr. Evans was a retired buyer for W.H. Basnight & Company in Ahoskie and was an active member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon.  He was a member and past president of Murfreesboro Chamber of Commerce, an active member of the Murfreesboro Historical Association, and was formerly Keeper of the Rea Museum.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Ann Brown Evans of the home; a daughter, Kay Jones and husband, Mark, of Ahoskie; a son, Richard “Tabb” Evans III and wife, Gina, of Charlotte; sisters Betty Whitley of Virginia Beach, VA, Judy Piersall of Portsmouth, VA, and Gayle Hefty of Richmond, VA; and grandchildren, Drew Jones, Evans Jones, Mary Claire Evans and Ben Evans.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Murfreesboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Lee Canipe and the Rev. Thomas Caulkins officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery.
