MURFREESBORO — A mobile food pantry with the Food Bank of the Albemarle will begin providing service to those Hertford County citizens in need on a monthly basis.
On Oct. 11, Murfreesboro Baptist Church will begin to host the truck in its parking lot each second Tuesday of the month at 3 p.m.
A coalition of churches in Murfreesboro recently worked to bring the truck to the area. Organizers hope to serve more than 100 families each month with the food unit and will serve any Hertford County family with a valid I.D.
Non-perishable food, bread and meat will be provided.
Volunteers to help with the food distribution, hand out information, register families, direct traffic, and unload food from the truck are needed. Contact Peggy Lowe at 398-4288 for volunteer information.
The Food Bank of the Albemarle’s Mobile Food Pantry program currently serves 12 sites across Northeast North Carolina, including Northampton, Gates and Bertie counties. The Food Bank of the Albemarle provides over 3.2 million meals a year to families in the Northeast region.
