Mildred Williams Wheeler

WOODLAND – Mrs. Mildred Williams Wheeler, age 70 died at the Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. She was a native of Northampton County and a member of the Potecasi Baptist Church.

She was married to William “Red” Wheeler in 1958 and together they enjoyed fifty-three years of marriage.

Mrs. Wheeler retired from Bell’s Red and White Grocery Store in Woodland. She was also a long term member of the Woodland Rescue Squad serving for forty plus years. Mrs. Wheeler loved animals and especially her dog, Candy. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister in law and aunt.

Preceding her in death are her mother and father, Annie Hobbs Williams and George Williams Sr.; and her brother, George Williams, Jr.

Surviving are her husband, William “Red” Wheeler of the home, one daughter, Debbie Wheeler Martin and her husband, Stewart, of Conway; and one son, William Darrell Wheeler and his wife, Karen, of Woodland. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Christopher Martin, Tara Martin Cox, Stephanie Wheeler and Jeff Timberlake and five great grandchildren, C.J., Edward and Tyler Martin, Violet Cox and David Pierce.

Graveside services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Woodland Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Lamar Wheeler.

The family will receive friends at Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square on Saturday evening from 7-8:30 p.m.
