Martha Laverne Dampier Langley

WAKE FOREST – Martha Laverne Dampier Langley, age 80, of Seawell Drive, Wake Forest, died Saturday, September 17, 2011 at her home surrounded by family.

Mrs. Langley was born on May 17, 1931 in Valdosta, GA, a daughter of the late William and Mary Maddie Dampier. She worked as an administrative assistant with the CIA in Washington, DC before moving to Ahoskie where she raised her family, worked for Beasley Enterprises, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie. She and her late husband, Henry Augustus Langley, lived in Ahoskie for 46 years before moving to Wake Forest.

Mrs. Langley was a lover of music and in the past was a violinist with an orchestra. She was an avid bird watcher and loved her flowers and gardening. She also loved to play Bridge with her Bridge Club in Ahoskie.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Mary Delene Wilson of Wake Forest, Melinda Langley of Raleigh and Bea Harrison of Ahoskie; her son, Terry Langley of Charlotte; her sister, Madeline Burns of Florida; six grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Langley was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Dampier and Burton Dampier.

A graveside celebration of life service was held on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Highland Memorial Gardens, officiated by her granddaughter, Anna Crooms, Ordained Minister.
