Labor Day weekend: Drive Safe!

After facing the effects of Hurricane Irene, the coastal areas of North Carolina are working diligently to prepare for the Labor Day weekend.

If you plan on traveling to the beaches this weekend, please drive with care and patience. Wherever you may drive in eastern North Carolina, be alert for emergency personnel and work crews.

Do not be an aggressive driver. Wear your seatbelt, put down the distractions and never drive after drinking.

The Labor Day holiday, which is set aside to honor the working people’s contribution to society, is expected to be a busy one on North Carolina highways. The holiday weekend officially begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2 and ends at midnight, Monday, Sept. 5.  Last year, 11 motorists died and 330 were injured in traffic collisions investigated by the Highway Patrol over the Labor Day holiday.

There has been enough devastation with weather, don’t you become a tragedy, too. Drive safely!
