Albert “Al” Thompson

Dr. Albert “Al” Thompson departed this earthly life on July 31, 2011 at Duke University Hospital, Durham.  He was born on July 17, 1933 in Jersey City, NJ.

Dr. Al Thompson was employed by Bertie County Rural Health as the Executive Director.  He was also a veteran of the US Air Force; a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; National Association of Community Health Centers;  Hertford County Social Services Board; Dayton Ohio Urban League and many other organizations.

He leaves to cherish fond memories his wife of 23 years, Darcel Thompson of the home;  three daughters, Estelle O’Conner of Maryland, Donna Broady of Virginia and Kenya Crosson of  Ohio;  three brothers, Leonard Thompson of Georgia, James Thompson of Florida and Reginald Thompson of New York;  two sisters, Lorraine Brockman of New York and Dolores Brooks of New York;  five grandchildren, Kyle, Justin, Erin, Jasmine and Lauryn;  and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Bertie County Middle School, Windsor, by the Rev. Shelton Barnes.  Burial will take place at VA Dayton National Cemetery in Dayton, OH.  Viewing will be held on Thursday at Hunter’s Funeral Home, Ahoskie, for the public from 1-6 p.m.
