COLERAIN – A checking station near here led to the arrest of an Ahoskie woman on drug trafficking charges last Saturday.

In the midst of a traffic check, North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper K.V. Genoa spotted a pill bottle in the console as the driver was reaching for her registration card.

At that time, the driver – Rachel Bell of Wilson Road – was turned over to Detective Sgt. Brian Edmondson of the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office.

Bell was then charged with one count of trafficking opium in the form of Percocet. She was placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $15,000 secured bond.

“The fight against drugs still continues in Bertie County,” Bertie County Sheriff John Holley said. “We will continue to work to keep drugs off of our streets and away from our citizens.”
