Municipal filing got off to a quick start in one Roanoke-Chowan county.

Seven incumbents filed for reelection Friday afternoon in Bertie Countywhile one current commissioner also filed in Northampton County.

Powellsville Mayor Thomas Asbell and the town’s three commissioners – J.T. Watford, Carlyle Hoggard and James Peele – filed for reelection at the same time on the opening day to officially enter the November race.

The same was true in Windsor where all three incumbent commissioners filed for reelection together. Commissioners Bob Brown, Collins Cooper and Hoyt Cooper all filed to retain their seats on the town board.

No one else had signed up to seek a Bertie County municipal office as of 2 p.m. on Friday.

The only other municipal candidate to file as of that time was Severn Commissioner Troy Holloman, who will look to retain his seat on that board.

No candidates had filed in Hertford County.

Filing for municipal election will be open from yesterday (Friday) through 12 noon on July 15. All elections offices in the Roanoke-Chowan region are closed on Monday, July 4.
