EDENTON – Edenton Post 40 knocked off Ahoskie Post 102 here Wednesday by a count of 10-3 in a Senior American Legion game.

Edenton opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first frame and added five runs in the bottom of the second to take a 7-0 lead.

Post 40 scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning and their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 10-0 advantage.

Ahoskie scored all three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Blake Hill hit a solo homer for the first run.

Marvin Harrell then singled and scored on a Patrick Dilday RBI-double. Dilday took third on the throw home.

Chris Rogerson then drew a walk before Dilday scored on a Mitchell Godwin sacrifice fly.

Tyler Burden then singled and Daniel Merritt walked to load the bases, but a fly out to deep right field ended the inning.

Edenton held the 10-3 lead at that point and never looked back as both teams were scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings.

“We fell behind early, but we didn’t give up,” Post 102 skipper Dave Ellis said. “We played pretty good after the first couple of innings.”

Ahoskie had nine hits during the contest led by Merritt, Hill and Dilday, each of whom had two. Harrell, Burden and Brandon Warren had one hit each.

Nikolai Simonson was 5-for-5 for Post 40.

Tyler Pryor started the game and pitched for one and two-thirds of an inning. Hill pitched the final six and one-third. Hill struck out nine.

Ahoskie dropped to 3-13 with the loss and will play a doubleheader at Wayne County today (Saturday) and then will play at Roxboro on Sunday.
