Senior team drops outing

AHOSKIE – Wilson Post 13 swept Ahoskie Post 102 in a Senior American Legion doubleheader here Saturday by scores of 20-0 and 13-8.
After dropping the first game 20-0, Ahoskie took a 7-3 lead through three innings, but lost the second game when Wilson rallied for a 13-8 win.
Wilson opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first frame as the second game began.
Ahoskie plated one run in the bottom of the first.
Tyler Burden singled to right and moved to third on a Daniel Merritt double to left. Burden scored on a Brandon Warren RBI-groundout to close Ahoskie to within 3-1.
Post 102 then exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Bobby Merritt started things with a single to center and moved to third on a Daniel Merritt double. Warren then belted a three-run homerun to center as Ahoskie grabbed a 4-3 lead.
Jud Smith followed with a solo homer to left.
Joseph Eure kept things going with a single to left and then Marvin Harrell singled to center before Patrick Dilday walked to load the bases.
Eure and Harrell scored on a Mitchell Godwin two-run single to left as Ahoskie grabbed a 7-3 lead.
Post 13, however, responded with six runs in the top of the fourth and two in the fifth to grab an 11-7 advantage.
Ahoskie got its final run in the bottom of the fifth.
Dilday singled to left before Brock Merritt was hit by a pitch. Both advanced on a wild pitch and then Dilday scored on a wild pitch.
Daniel Merritt and Warren drew back-to-back walks to load the bases, but a strikeout ended the Ahoskie threat.
Wilson scored its final two runs in the top of the sixth stanza for the 13-8 final.
Daniel Merritt and Warren led Ahoskie’s 11-hit attack with two hits each. Warren added four RBIs.
Warren and Blake Hill both pitched for Ahoskie.
The losses dropped Ahoskie to 3-12.
