TARBORO – Velma Mitchell Williford, age 97 of Tarboro, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Tarboro.

She was born October 9, 1913 in Bertie County to the late Herbert Y. Holloman and Claudia Dilday. She was the wife of the late Obie Williford.

She was a member of Aulander Baptist Church and worked for the Department of Social Services.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Johnson will officiate.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Thomas Mitchell and his wife, Nancy, of Tarboro; four grandchildren, Sherry Jones and her husband, Dean, of Raleigh, Denise Linquist and her husband, Brian, of Charlottesville, VA, Michael Mitchell and his wife, Katherine, of Dallas, TX and Victoria Mitchell Doughtie and her husband, Matt, of Tarboro; and four great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends  from  12 noon until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21 at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home prior to the service.
