Post 58 bests Post 102

AHOSKIE – Rocky Mount Post 58 secured a 14-3 Senior American Legion win over Ahoskie Post 102 last Thursday.

Ahoskie opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the first frame.

Tyler Burden singled and stole second. He then scored on a Brandon Warren RBI-single to make it 1-0.

Rocky Mount evened the score with a run in the bottom of the second, but Ahoskie came back with a run in the top of the third inning.

Mitchell Godwin singled, but was erased at second when Burden reached on a fielder’s choice. Marvin Harrell then doubled to score Burden and give Post 102 a 2-1 edge.

Rocky Mount, however, took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the third. Post 58 added three more in the fourth and one in the fifth frame to take an 8-2 edge.

Ahoskie’s final run came in the top of the sixth stanza.

Warren doubled and scored on a Blake Hill RBI-double to get Post 102 within 8-3.

Rocky Mount added six runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 14-3 final.

Ahoskie had seven hits led by Warren and Harrell with two each.

Post 102 sent three pitchers to the mound including Hill, Joseph Eure and Burden.

“We played pretty well,” Post 102 skipper Dave Ellis said. “The game was much closer than the final score indicated.”

The loss dropped Ahoskie to 2-6 overall.
