Cary Elizabeth Davis Barnes

COLERAIN – Cary Elizabeth Davis Barnes, 75, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

She had been preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Leo Wingate Barnes; her parents, Clifton and Christine Davis; and a sister, Isla Rea Futrell.

A native of Conway in Northampton County, she worked with the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald in Ahoskie for many years, serving in various positions in the organization.  She was a member of Colerain Baptist Church and was a gifted singer and painter who loved sharing her paintings with family and friends. She, also, was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Pendleton for many years.

Survivors include three sons, Michael Wingate Barnes of Trapp, Kenneth Marcel Barnes and wife, Lisa, of Bear Grass and Scott Maurice “Marty” Barnes and fiance’, Linda Phelps, of Colerain; one daughter, Lauren Michelle “Miki” Grove and husband, Carl, of Brunswick, Maine; nine grandchildren; John Michael, Marcel, Clifton, Gaylord, Kyle Scott, Savannah, Michelle, and Danielle Barnes and Leigh Anne Terry; one great granddaughter, Kaila Hanna; one brother, Clifton A. Davis, Jr. and his wife, Faye, of Conway; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011 in Colerain Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Roberts presiding.  The family has requested that anyone wishing to share a gift in memory of Cary, please do so to the Colerain Volunteer Fire Department.
