Ahoskie falls to Post 58

AHOSKIE – Rocky Mount Post 58 handed Ahoskie its worst loss of the season here Tuesday.
Rocky Mount jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back, downing Post 102 19-1 in a Senior American Legion contest.
Rocky Mount led 4-0 through the first two and a half innings.
In the bottom of the third, Tyler Burden singled with two out and then Daniel Merritt drew a walk. A fly out ended the threat, however.
Post 58 added three more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 7- 0 advantage.
In the bottom of the fifth frame, Mitchell Godwin and Marvin Harrell had back-to-back singles with one out. Godwin went to third on a sacrifice fly by Burden and then Harrell stole second.
A line shot to shortstop, however, ended the inning with Rocky Mount still holding a comfortable lead.
The only run of the contest for Ahoskie came in the bottom of the sixth when Brandon Warren hit a solo shot to left-centerfield to close the gap to 7-1.
Rocky Mount then added three in the top of the seventh and broke the game open with nine runs in the eighth to take the 19-1 win.
Ahoskie used four pitchers including Ryland Edwards, Warren, Tyler Pryor and Joseph Eure.
Post 102 had seven hits, led by Burden who had two hits.
Ahoskie dropped to 2-5 overall with the loss.
