AHOSKIE – Raleigh built a 9-0 lead here Saturday and never looked back.

That helped the visiting team top Post 102 in a Junior American Legion game by a final of 17-7.

Raleigh scored five runs in the top of the first and then added four more in the top of the second inning as they grabbed the 9-0 advantage.

Ahoskie rallied back with four runs in the bottom of the second.

Jim Porter got things going with an infield single, but was erased when Perry Wynns reached first on a fielder’s choice. Ackerman Grace then singled to right and Brandon Terry walked to load the bases.

Austin Hurdle drew a bases loaded walk to score the first run. Robert Thompson then drew a free pass to force in another run as did Ryan Lilley and Darren Armstrong. The result was Ahoskie closed within 9-4.

Raleigh added another run in the top of the third inning to go ahead 10-4 but Post 102 came back with two runs in the home half of the inning.

Austin lee singled to left followed by a Terry single and a Hurdle walk to load the bases. Brandon Stifflemier then had an RBI-single to score Lee and Thompson brought home Terry on an RBI-fielder’s choice to close the gap to 10-6.

That was as close as Ahoskie would come, however, as Raleigh rolled off seven more in the top of the fourth frame to take a 17-6 advantage.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ahoskie added one run.

Cody Cobb singled to center and moved to second on a wild pitch. Lee then reached on an error which moved Cobb to third. Terry then delivered an RBI-single to left to score the run, but a line shot to second ended the game.

Ahoskie used four pitchers including Grace, Adam Fairless, Stifflemier and Dallas Belch.

Post 102 recorded seven hits, led by two from Terry.

The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was rained out with Raleigh leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second.

Ahoskie dropped to 2-1 overall with the loss.
