NEW BERN – New Bern broke open a 2-all tie with six runs in the bottom of the fourth frame here Sunday.

That helped the home squad down Ahoskie American Legion Post 102 12-2 in a Senior American Legion contest.

New Bern opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first frame.

Ahoskie then scored two runs in the top of the second inning.

Brandon Warren started the scoring run with a double to left-centerfield. Jud Smith then hit a two-run homer to give Ahoskie a 2-1 lead.

The advantage didn’t last, however, as New Bern tied the game in the bottom of the second.

The home squad then added six runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth as they claimed a 9-2 lead.

New Bern added its final three runs in the bottom of the sixth stanza for the 12-2 final.

Ahoskie used three pitchers including Marvin Harrell, Tyler Burden and Mitchell Godwin. The local Post team only had three hits, led by Warren’s two.

“We were a little short-handed for Sunday’s game,” Post 102 Head Coach Dave Ellis said. “We made a couple of errors that hurt us. It was New Bern’s first game and they used their top pitcher against us.”

Ahoskie fell to 2-4 overall for the season.
