SEVERN — A Franklin, Virginia man is facing charges and more arrests are pending after an armed robbery here.

According to Northampton County Sheriff’s Detective Lt. Brenda Burnette, Ronald Keith Whitehead Jr., 22, was arrested after an armed robbery occurred Monday on Mill Street.

“The victim called and reported someone had stolen money and other items from them at gunpoint,” said Burnette.

She added it was reported four people left in a vehicle, with Virginia plates, from the scene. The victim also knew one of the suspects and was aware that person lived in Franklin, Va.

With that information, the communications center put out a BOLO (be on the look out) with the vehicle’s information to both Hertford County and Southampton County, Va. law enforcement authorities.

Burnette said law enforcement in Southampton spotted the vehicle and proceeded to pull it over. However, they were only able to arrest Whitehead, the only person in the vehicle.

Burnette drew warrants on Whitehead for robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy robbery with a dangerous weapon. Meanwhile, Southampton authorities drew a fugitive warrant on the suspect.

Once he waived extradition, Whitehead was taken to the Northampton County Jail and placed there on a $40,000 secured bond.

His first court appearance was on Thursday and the case was continued until June 16.

Burnette said there are more arrests pending.

Burnette thanked the work of the Southampton County law enforcement as well as Northampton County Sherriff’s Detective Sgt. Lynette Clements and Deputy Benjamin Mann for their assistance.
