Darwin Howard “Clay” Harper

HOLLISTER – Funeral services for Darwin Howard “Clay” Harper, age 81, who died on Sunday, May 15, 2011, will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hollister.  Reverend Linda Taybron, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Harper Family Cemetery.

“Clay” was the son of the late Robert Henry and Nellie Batchelor Harper.  He was preceded in death by one sister, Quincy Mullins; and one brother, Arvel Hedgepeth. He was a former coach and teacher with Bertie County Public Schools.

He leaves to cherish his memory seven sisters, Claudia Brinkley of Enfield, Helen Banks of Washington, DC, Harriette Ward (Willie) of Enfield, Patsy Woodley of East Orange, NJ, Mary Ann Manning of Rocky Mount, Mildred Harper of Hollister and Cynthia Harris of Temple Hills, MD; and two brothers, Robert Henry “Jack” Harper, Jr. of Rocky Mount and Norris Chance Harper of Enfield.

Viewing will be held Friday afternoon, May 20, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Richardson Funeral Home in Louisburg.
