WINDSOR – Two Bertie County law enforcement agencies worked together to make a pair of drug arrests here Wednesday.

According to Bertie County Sheriff John Holley, Mickey Lee Barnes and Jarvis Gladney were arrested in separate incidents.

Barnes, 29, of Granville Street in Windsor was arrested as part of an on-going investigation. He was charged with three counts of the sale and delivery of a Schedule II narcotic, possession with intent to sell and deliver of cocaine and maintaining a place for a controlled substance.

He was arrested near the Bertie County ABC Store located on U.S. 17 south of Windsor by Bertie County Sheriff’s Narcotics Officer Brian Edmondson and Windsor Police Officers Matt Roebuck and Martin Phelps. He allegedly was in possession of 14 crack rocks when the arrest was made.

Barnes was placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

On the same day, Gladney, 29, of Pleasant Oak Road in Windsor, was arrested by the same three officers as part of a four-month investigation. Officers went to arrest Gladney after drawing warrants for three counts of selling and delivering a Schedule II controlled substance. He was located at Cherry’s Amoco south of Windsor and arrested.

Gladney was also placed in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

“This is part of our continuing effort to crack down on drug activity in Bertie County,” Sheriff Holley said. “More will follow.”

The Sheriff also said he appreciated the efforts of Windsor Police Chief Rodney Hoggard and his officers.

“I definitely want to thank the Windsor Police Department guys and Chief Hoggard for allowing them to work with us,” he said. “When we come together, we’re a strong force.”
