Evelyn Spivey Hedspeth

CONWAY – Evelyn Spivey Hedspeth, 93, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, VA after a brief illness.

She was born in the Rehoboth community of Northampton County, the daughter of Frank William and Alice Barnes Spivey.  She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Jerry Hedspeth; her son, Jerry Thomas Hedspeth, and daughter-in-law, Frances Morris Hedspeth.  She, also, was preceded in death by her brothers, Clyde Spivey and Wilton Spivey; her sisters, Elma Warren and Doris Bridgers, and her half-brother and sisters, Helen Odom, Virgie Rowell, Lillie Bryant and Robert Spivey.

She was a devoted member of Zion United Methodist Church in Conway for over 70 years and served for 65 years as Treasurer of the Zion United Methodist Women.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carol Hedspeth Lowe and her husband, Joe, of Murfreesboro; her grandson, William Jerry Hedspeth and his wife, Linda, of Colerain; her sisters, Eloise Smith of Jackson, Rachel Gassner of Yorktown, VA and Fannye Ashley of Chesapeake, VA; and her brother, Charlie Spivey of Virginia Beach, VA as well as dozens of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Zion United Methodist Church in Conway.  Burial will follow in the Conway Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, April 26, at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway as well as other times at her home.

Memorial donations may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, Conway, NC or to the Conway Volunteer Fire Department.
