Peggy Verna Leary

COLERAIN – Peggy Verna Leary, 60, of  245 Morris Ford Road, Colerain, died Sunday, April 16 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A native of Bertie County, she was a member of Ashland  Missionary Baptist Church, Merry Hill, was employed for 28 years at Perdue Inc.

She was preceded in death by parents, William “Bro” Cofield and Betty “Bear Bear” Robbins.

Survivors include a God child, Rochelle Moore of Murfreesboro; sisters, Geraldine Slade (Earl) of Colerain, Gloria Robbins of Colerain, Mary Speight (Eric) of Ahoskie, Audrey Lawrence of Spring Lake, NC, Brenda Savage “James” of Harrellsville, Cheryl White of Powellsville, Carmenlita Cofield of Powellsville and Janice Capehart (Joe) of Colerain; brothers, James Leary (Mary-Ann) of Merry Hill, Ernest Robbins of Merry Hill, Linwood Robbins, Willie Robbins and Robert Robbins, all of Colerain, William Cofield (Miranda) of Rich Square, Jeffery Cofield (Sharon) of Kentucky and Milton Bass (Edna) of Cofield; and her grandmother, Erma S. Cofield of Ahoskie. She is also survived by her aunts, Geneva Leary of Perrytown, Sarah Moody of Colerain and Florence Gilliam of Newport News, VA; a great aunt, Blanche Holley of Greensboro; a great uncle, James Leary of Colerain; and a special niece, Debra Moore.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Ashland Missionary Baptist Church, Merry Hill, with the Rev. W. J. Best Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
