Barbara Alston White Lafferty

COLERAIN – Barbara Alston White Lafferty, 64, died Saturday, April 16, 2011.

She was born in Bertie County on August 9, 1946 to the late Ralph White. She joined in death with her mother, Helen White, and her husband, Roy Lafferty, as a result of a tornado.

Her class was the first class to graduate from Bertie County High School and she was a graduate of Chowan College.

She retired after 25 years from Sprint Telephone Company-Business Office. Barbara was a member of Colerain Baptist Church.

She and her husband, Roy, owned and operated R&B Greenhouses.  She loved and enjoyed her friends at her Lake Gaston home and generously shared her flowers and garden with family and friends.

She worked very hard in planning and carrying out a wonderful celebration for her mother’s 90th birthday on March 12, 2011.  She lovingly cared for her mother in her last weeks.

She is survived by one son, Jonathan Keith White and wife, Christy, of Lexington; stepsons, Danny Lafferty and wife, Kim, of Conway, Brian Lafferty and wife, Connie, of Nashville and Kevin Lafferty and finance’, Tammy, of Nashville; two sisters, Keith White Travis and husband, Bob, of Winston-Salem, and Lisa White Barfield and husband, Randy, of Clemmons; three grandchildren, Tanner Woollen, Logan White and AlstonWhite; and six step-grandchildren, Scott, Shelley, Christy, Jessica, Jasper, Casey, Erica and Jessica.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Colerain Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Roberts, the Rev. Nathan Parrish and the Rev. Avery Varnadore officiating.  Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22 at Walker Funeral Home in Windsor.  Donations may be made to Colerain Baptist Church, 202 N. Main Street, Colerain, NC 27924.
