WILSON – Northeast Academy fell here Monday, but the Lady Eagles are improving.

The Northeast softball team dropped a 12-2 decision to Faith Christian School in a non-conference outing, but  Head Coach Troy Smith says the team is getting better.

“We’re not getting the wins we would like, but I see a lot of improvement in the girls,” Smith said. “With eight freshmen starting on the varsity team, we just want to work hard and be fundamentally sound on defense and be patient at the plate and put the ball in play on offense.

“These girls will take their lumps this year, but I have no doubt that there are many wins ahead for this group in the next three years,” he added.

Northeast took the early lead in the contest, scoring one run in the top of the first frame. Faith came back to score three in the bottom of the inning. Both teams were scoreless in the second.

The Lady Eagles closed the gap to 3-2 in the top of the third, but Faith added two in the bottom of the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth to close out the game.

Morgan Galloway led the Northeast offensive attack, going 2-for-3 with an RBI while Nicole Burke was 1-for-3 and added an RBI. Brittany Parker checked in at 1-for-3 with a run scored. Arielle Ricks scored the other run.

Ricks pitched one inning and gave up three runs on four hits. Mollie Cocke tossed four innings, giving up nine runs on six hits and six walks.
