Lady Falcons top HCHS

WINDSOR – The Lady Falcons scored 14 runs in the first inning here Monday.

That outburst helped Bertie High School’s softball team go on to a 19-0 win over visiting Hertford County High School.

The first inning was all Bertie as the Falcons started with a 14-run bang.

Brook Bowen singled to left and went all the way to third on an error. Whitney Castelloe then delivered an RBI-single to score the first run. Caroline White followed with an inside-the park homerun that made it 3-0.

Sandi Todd and Kelsie White each scored on a wild pitch and Bowen provided a two-run single. White had a two-RBI single and then Ashley Harmon plated a run when she drew a bases-loaded walk. Brandice Cullipher forced in a run when she did the same.

Bowen drove in the final run of the inning with an RBI-single that made it 14-0.

The Lady Falcons added two more runs in the bottom of the third. Todd was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run. Bowen scored on an error as well to make it 16-0.

The Lady Bears’ only threat came in the top of the fourth frame.

Courtney Malone walked before Bria Freeman singled. Both runners advanced on a groundout, but two strikeouts ended the inning.

Bertie plated its final three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Caroline White had a two-run single and Todd delivered an RBI-double to secure those runs and the 10-0 win.

Bertie had 11 hits in the game, led by White’s three hits and six RBIs. Bowen added three hits and three RBIs and Todd had two hits.

Kelsie White pitched two innings for the Falcons and Kaela White also tossed two frames. Ashley Harmon pitched one inning.

The Lady Falcons improved to 5-1 in the Northeastern Coastal Conference while the Lady Bears drop to 0-5 in the league.
