MERRY HILL – Lonnie Edward Farless, Jr. died Monday, March 14, 2011 in his home. His wife of 60 years, Delcie Suis Farless was by his side.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Hillcrest Cemetery, Colerain, by the Rev. Joseph Cooper.  The family will receive friends at their home following the service.  Mr. Farless will lie in state at Walker Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 16.

Mr. Farless was born January 25, 1924 in Merry Hill.  He was born in the same home where he died.  He dearly loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Farless is survived by his four children; daughter, Karen Farless Webb and her husband, Dr. Rick Webb; son, Lonnie Wood Farless and his wife, Patti; son, Charles Edward Farless and his wife, Sharon; and daughter, Sheila Farless Silver and her husband, John Silver.  He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren; Elizabeth Webb Wells and her husband, Vin; Blair Webb Hogan and her husband, Joe; Laura Webb Covington and her husband, Thomas; Thomas Webb; Wood Farless and his wife, Katharine; Dr. Graham Farless and his wife, Katherine; Elliott Farless; Meredith Farless; Allison Farless; Mimi Silver; Creecy Silver; and John Winston Silver.  He is also survived by his three great grandchildren; Laura Farless Wells, Jack Thomas Hogan and Graham Edward Farless Jr.  He is survived by his sister, Floreine Burt; and preceded in death by his sister, Clio Hawkins and brother, Leonard Farless.

Mr. Farless served in the US Army from 1946 to 1947 in Korea just before the outbreak of the War.  He then returned to Bertie County where he farmed his entire life.  He spent many hours with friends and family hunting, fishing and enjoying the land and rivers that he loved so much.  He was a devoted husband and father, proud grandfather, and a true friend.  His life was a legacy of what is good and honest and was a powerful inspiration to his family and all that knew him.  That legacy continues as his sons and two grandsons continue to farm the land he loved so much.
