WINDSOR – Bertie High School softball gained a key non-conference win here Monday.

The Lady Falcons downed Riverside High School 2-0.

Caroline White, pitching even through sickness, struck out 11 and walked just four in the victory.

Falcon mentor Jackie Copeland said the win was important in jump-starting the season.

“It was a big booster for us,” Copeland said. “The girls need to believe in their team and I think this win helped them do that.

“I’ve told them all pre-season that hard work, dedication to the team and a positive attitude can make a team successful,” she added. “The girls are working hard on those things.”

The Lady Falcons will be back in action Friday when they meet Plymouth High School at home.
