Fannie Marie Leary

AHOSKIE – Fannie Marie Leary, 81, died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Ahoskie with the Rev. Daniel Glaze officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ahoskie Cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service at 2 p.m. in the church fellowship hall.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Stanley Leary and Edna Sewell Leary; her brothers, James Stanley Leary Jr. and Stephen Sewell Leary; and a sister, Edna Earle Leary Newsome.

A lifelong  resident of Ahoskie, Fannie was born March 20, 1929; graduated from Ahoskie High School; attended Chowan College and received her Nurse’s Assistant Certification from Roanoke- Chowan Community College.  As a member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, she participated in various church organizations and kept the nursery for 25 years.  She worked at Pizza Inn and delivered papers for The News-Herald, receiving recognition as Carrier of the Month and Carrier of the Year.

Fannie is survived by brothers, Dr. Thomas E. Leary and wife, Joyce, William E. Leary Sr. and wife, Bess, of Ahoskie and Rev. David O. Leary and wife, Bonita, of Morganton, NC; a sister- in- law, Lamera Leary of Chesapeake, VA; six nieces, seven nephews, eleven great-nieces and nine great-nephews.
