Northeast splits pair

The Northeast Academy varsity boys split a pair of outings recently.

The Eagles knocked off the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf 49-37, but fell to Tarheel Independent Conference rival Hobgood Academy 45-23.

Northeast led 12-10 after one quarter against the School for the Deaf and held a 22-17 edge at the intermission. The Eagles continued to pull away in the third quarter when they outscored ENCSD 10-4 to take a 32-21 lead.

Clay Robbins led the Eagle attack with 15 points while James Pope added 13. Will Glover and Brad Johnson added six points each while Avery Hargrave had five and Davis Harrell had four points.

Chris Gaddy led the School for the Deaf with 21 points.

The Eagles dropped a conference outing to Hobgood after falling behind 16-11 after one quarter. They closed the gap to 19-17 by the intermission, but Hobgood pulled away with a 14-point third quarter.

Pope and Robbins led Northeast with nine points each while Harrell chipped in three and Justin Lassiter added two points.

Dusty Knox led Hobgood with 20 points.

The junior varsity boys from Northeast fell to Hobgood as well, suffering a 33-22 loss, which was their first TIC setback.

The teams were tied at eight after one quarter and Northeast edged ahead 13-11 at the intermission.

Hobgood, however, controlled the second half, outscoring Northeast 22-9 to take the victory.

Ryan Williams led the Eagles with 11 points while Jake Bryant chipped in five. Logan Simonowich added three and Bo Daniel checked in with two. Christian Fleetwood rounded out the Northeast scoring with one point.

Jawan Marshall paced the Raiders with 12 while Caleb Brown added seven.

Northeast is 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the league after the loss.
