Elizabeth Overton Wilson “Lib” Jones

WINTON – Elizabeth Overton Wilson “Lib” Jones, 94, died Friday, January 14, 2011, at Heartland Living and Rehabilitation Center, Greensboro, NC with her daughters and caregivers by her side.

Mrs. Jones was born in Epsom community of Franklin County, NC on June 10, 1916 and was the daughter of the late William Powell and Addie Jones Ellington Wilson.  She attended Epsom School, was a 1936 graduate of East Carolina Teacher’s College in Greenville, now East Carolina University, and then worked as teacher in Lucama, Wilson, and Hertford County, NC.

On June 28, 1941 she married Fred Jones of Cofield, NC and they moved to Winton where she made her home until her death.  Mr. Jones was a farmer, businessman and served on the Hertford County Board of Commissioners until his death in 1976.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Woodrow Wilson, formerly of Louisburg.

Surviving are her daughters, Margaret Jones of Efland, NC and Elizabeth Jones (husband, Steve Kelly) of Greensboro; two granddaughters, Anna Cary of Greensboro and Rebecca Cary (husband, Jack Mitchell) of Durham, NC; a brother, Gerald Wilson of Louisburg, NC; and 12 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 in Winton Baptist Church by the Rev. Joseph Futrell.  Inurnment will be in the Jones Family Cemetery.  Friends may join the family on Friday, January 21 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the church’s social hall, again on Saturday following services, and all other times at the residence.

The family wishes to express gratitude to caregivers Colette Gibson, Dianne Judd, Brenda Atkins, Shirley Stephenson and Norma Downs for the loving and gentle care they gave to Mrs. Jones for many years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC  27405, or to Winton Baptist Church, P.O. Box 415, Winston, NC  27986.
