JACKSON — The Northampton County Sherriff’s Office is on the lookout for a home intruder who was shot at by an armed homeowner.

According to NCSO Detective Lt. Brenda Burnette, the call came in to dispatch at approximately 8:15 on Monday night.

She said the female homeowner was sleeping on the couch in her home when the subject broke into the back door

“She awoke to the light of a flashlight in her face,” said Burnette.

That’s when the victim reportedly sprung into action by grabbing her nearby 9mm semi-automatic pistol and fired at the intruder. The suspect then fled the scene.

“She (the victim) thought she hit him, (but) we have not found anything to confirm that she did hit the suspect,” said Burnette.

Burnette added K-9 units were called in to search the area, but to no avail.

The suspect is described as a black male.

She urged those with information to call the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office at (252) 534-2611 or the Northampton County Crime Stoppers at (252) 534-1110.
