Eagles win two straight

Northeast Academy’s varsity boys have recorded back-to-back victories.

The Eagles knocked off Tarheel Independent Conference foe Pungo Christian Academy on Tuesday by a 53-33 count and then defeated non-conference opponent Halifax Academy 56-22 on Wednesday.

In Tuesday’s contest, Northeast led 9-6 after one quarter and held on to a 19-18 edge at the intermission. From there, they controlled the third quarter (19-11) and fourth (15-4) to establish the final margin.

James Pope had the hot hand for the Eagles with 18 points in the contest. Davis Harrell was also in double figures with 10.

Brad Johnson had eight for Northeast and Avery Hargrave added seven while Will Glover chipped in six. Clay Robbins rounded out the scoring with four points.

Ethan Credle led Pungo with 13.

The next night, Northeast easily dispensed of Halifax. The Eagles jumped out to a 14-4 lead and never looked back as they outscored their opponents in every quarter.

The Eagles led 29-10 at the intermission and 44-15 after three quarters.

Harrell led the balanced attack with 15 points while Glover, Johnson and Robbins had eight points each. Pope contributed seven while Hargrave and Benton Barrett had four each.

Clint Sieber led Halifax with 10 points.
