Janet Britton Hoggard

AULANDER – Janet Britton Hoggard, age 78, of the 500 block of East Main Street, Aulander, died Sunday, December 26, 2010, at her home.
Mrs. Hoggard, affectionately known as “Shoog” to her family and close friends, was born on June 3, 1932, in Pasquotank County, NC, a daughter of the late Henry Cleveland and Josie Blowe Britton. She was a member of Aulander Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir for many years and was in the Della Nowell Sunday school class. Janet was a homemaker and a member of the Aulander Civic League. She was the widow of J. V. Hoggard, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Angie Hoggard Draper of Aulander; her sons, Jeffrey Vernon Hoggard, also of Aulander, and Christopher A. Hoggard and his wife, Renee, of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and her grandsons, Rick, Steven, Ryan and Ben Draper.
Besides her husband and parents, Janet was predeceased by her sister, Merlene B. Slade.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at Aulander Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2010, with the Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Aulander Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29 and other times at the home. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Aulander Baptist Church or to the Aulander Civic League.
