MURFREESBORO – Fred D. Eley Jr., age 59, of Murfreesboro, NC departed this life on December 16, 2010 at Guardian Care Nursing Home in Ahoskie, NC.

He was born on February 24, 1951 to Fred and Iris Eley, Sr. in Hertford County, NC.

Fred was a member of First Baptist Church Murfreesboro.  He was last employed with Smithfield Packing.

He leaves to cherish fond memories: his parents, Fred Sr. and Iris Eley of Ahoskie, NC;  a daughter, Devonna Boone of Southampton Co., VA;  a brother, Herbert Eley of Murfreesboro, NC;  four sisters, Alice Eley Jones and SSGT Jackie Eley both of Murfreesboro, NC, Ann Lois Riddick of Mapleton, NC and April D. Jackson of Oxen Hill, MD;  and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 27, 2010 by the Rev. Robert D. Richardson III at First Baptist Church Murfreesboro.  Burial will be in the Wood Cemetery.

Viewing will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at the Murfreesboro location of Hunter’s Funeral Home.
