Harvey Jarnest Brittenham

AULANDER – Harvey Jarnest Brittenham, age 92, of the 200 block of Millennium Road, died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Hampton Veteran’s Administration Hospital.

Mr. Brittenham was born in Hertford County on April 14, 1918, a son of the late Matrey and Janie Holloman Brittenham.  He was a member of Earlys Baptist Church and was founder of Brittenham’s Rebuilding Service, Inc.   He was an army veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater where he earned four bronze stars and two purple hearts.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Lorraine B. Harrell and husband, Charles, of Ahoskie; and two sons, Thomas Brittenham and wife, Margaret, also of Ahoskie, and Cumin Brittenham and wife, Nancy, of Aulander.  Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jason Harrell, April Brittenham Dew, Kimberly King, Jeremy Brittenham, Joshua Brittenham and Justin Brittenham; and a great granddaughter, Danielle Hope King.

Mr. Brittenham was the last surviving sibling of seven; he was predeceased by his sisters, Exie Lassiter and Verlie Holloman and his brothers, Oris, Rudolph, Josh and Henry Brittenham.  He was also predeceased by his wives, Donnie Hurdle Brittenham and Betty Minton Brittenham.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Williams and the Rev. Paul Edwards officiating.  Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery with military honors.
