Robert Kindred Edwards

PENDLETON – Robert Kindred Edwards, 86, died Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie.

He had been preceded in death by his parents, J. C. Edwards, Sr. and Lollie E. Edwards; and brothers William D. (Bill) Edwards and Mack Edwards.

Lovingly known as “Babe” by family and friends, he was native of Northampton County and was a devoted husband, father and “Grandy” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He retired as a Rural Mail Carrier with 40 years of service and then worked with Conway Farm Supply in Conway for over 20 years.

A United States Army Veteran of World War II, he was a Staff Sergeant stationed in Korea and safely returned home in 1946.

He was a member of Roberts Chapel Baptist Church in Pendleton and served as Deacon for many years.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Lois Long Edwards of their home; five children, Sandra E. Woodard and husband, John Howard, of Pendleton,  Dan Edwards of Raleigh, Michael Edwards and wife, Laura, of Raleigh, Keith Edwards and wife, Anne, of Pendleton, and Mark Edwards and wife, Leigh, of Pensacola, FL;  five grandchildren, Amy Marriott and husband, Chris, of Greensboro, Rob Woodard and wife, Kristin, of Murfreesboro, Jennifer Edwards and Meredith Edwards of Raleigh, and Taylor Edwards of Pendleton; four great grandchildren, William Marriott, Jackson Marriott, Landon Woodard and Abigail Paige Woodard; one brother, Joseph C. Edwards Jr. and wife, Edith, of Pendleton; and three sisters, Louise Mann of Pendleton, Frances Warren and husband, Calvin, of Selma, and Anne McPhail and husband, Dougal, of Enfield.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 22 at 2 p.m. in Roberts Chapel Baptist Church with Dr. James Crocker presiding.  Burial with Military Honors followed in the Roberts Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway from 7 to 8:30 P.M. Sunday and have requested that anyone wishing to share a memorial gift, please do so to the Roberts Chapel Cemetery Trust.
