Karate tournament is Nov. 6

AHOSKIE – Youth Karate of America will hold a tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 6 at the National Guard Armory.

The event will cost $15 for those who pre-register and $20 for those who register on the day of the event.

It is open to children up to 17 years of age from levels beginner to advanced divided by age. The events include open hand kata, weapon kata and sparring.

With the sparring, protective gear is required and must meet the judge’s approval (head, hand, feet and mouth guard).

Those wishing to sponsor the event may do so. Ring sponsors will contribute $20 or a corporate sponsorship with a large sign, six meal passes and six tickets can be purchased for $300.

There will be hot dogs, chips and drinks available for purchase.

Spectators may enter for $5 per person with children five and under  admitted free.

Phillips Photography will be on hand for photos as well.

The proceeds from the event will benefit the Jaycees Burn Center in Chapel Hill.

Doors will open at 8 a.m. and the tournament will start at 9 a.m. sharp.
