The Beaver Lake Ski Club is proud to announce the 12th Annual Haley Mitchell Ski-a-thon for Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

The event, which was postponed October 2 due to flooding, will be held on Saturday, October 16, at Beaver Lake in Gates County.

Starting time will be at 8:30 a.m. and end about 6 p.m.

The public is invited and admission is free.

The Slalom tournament works like a charity walk-a-thon, but participants compete in a water ski tournament instead of walking.  Skiers are asked to raise sponsorships in their communities to support their participation.

In addition to seeing some great slalom skiing, there will be a Corn Hole tournament.

Live music will be performed along with a great silent auction.  Spectators will have a wonderful time out by the lake.

Skiers from up and down the east coast will recruit sponsors to raise money for Families of SMA, the National organization that is primarily responsible for raising research funds to find a cure.

The Haley Mitchell Ski-a-thon has raised over $360,000 for SMA research in its 11-year history.

Beaver Lake is located on Highway 13/158 just 2 miles north of the Chowan River Bridge in Gates County.
