Northeast falls to Roanoke Rapids

ROANOKE RAPIDS – Northeast Academy suffered a 6-3 tennis loss to Roanoke Rapids High School here Monday.

The Lady Yellow Jackets won four times in six singles outings and claimed two of three doubles victories.

The long victories for Northeast in the outing came when fifth-seeded Allyson Leggett and sixth-seeded Taylor Cocke claimed victories.

Cocke was able to cruise to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Melanne Brown while Leggett secured a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6, 12-10 victory over Shelley Cooke.

Northeast Academy top seed Kalen Rose battled with Emily Walker, but came up just short with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 9-11.

Fourth-seeded Ivey Little also battled with Becca White, but came up short for the Lady Eagles. She suffered a 6-1, 7-5 loss.

Roanoke Rapids also won the number two matchup when Jenna Wesner defeated Ashlynn Bridgers 6-3, 6-0 and third seeded Kim Kinnin topped Haley Jones 6-1, 7-5.

In doubles action, the Lady Eagles won the third seeded battle when Little and Cocke defeated Cooke and Brown.

The Lady Yellow Jackets won the other two matchups to secure the 6-3 win.
