Lillie Askew

PENDLETON – Lillie Mae Britton Askew (Mae Mae), 97, died peacefully Tuesday, September 14, 2010 with her family by her side.

She was born May 22, 1913 in Northampton County to the late Lonnie and Lucy Britton.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hudson Askew; a brother, Hinton Britton; sisters, Mabel Pierce, Virginia Dare Murray and Nita Fuller; and a dear friend, Elsie Davis.

She was a faithful member of Roberts Chapel Baptist Church in Pendleton.  She was known for her relentless faith and love for her family and friends, always putting others before herself.  She was loved by all who know her and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Lillie Mae is survived by her daughters, Peggy Richardson and husband, Gene, of Richmond, VA, Ann Bennett and husband, Joel, of Murfreesboro, and Trudy Mitchell and husband, Roger, of Zebulon; sisters, Ednola Fuller and husband, Earl, of Boykins, VA and Janice Davis of Conway; and a brother, Pete Britton of Pendleton; granddaughters, Joy Futrell and husband, Frankie, Julie Liverman and husband, Ed, Jerri Biggs and husband, Scott, and Jennifer Rose and husband, Joe;  great grandchildren, Taylor and Katie Futrell, Bennett and Davis Liverman, Morgan and Bradley Biggs, and Brooke and Karley Jo Rose.  She was also blessed with a step granddaughter, Pam Stokes and husband, Steve, and their children, Hannah and Jared.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, September 16 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway, NC and other times at the home of Joel and Ann Bennett in Murfreesboro.

A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 17 at Roberts Chapel Baptist Church in Pendleton with Dr. James Crocker presiding.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
