Heritage Day: See you there!

We hear it all the time.
“This little area is so lame….there’s nothing to do here.”
We beg to differ.
There are events taking place nearly every weekend throughout the Roanoke-Chowan area. While many are small in size, they are big in heart as individuals from all walks of life attempt to interject fun and excitement into the lives of our local citizens.
None are bigger in this rural area than Relay for Life, the North Carolina Watermelon Festival and Ahoskie Heritage Day.
The latter takes place this weekend when Ahoskie officials roll out the proverbial red carpet and invite local citizens and out-of-area guests to the Roanoke-Chowan’s largest municipality.
Even though Ahoskie (officially founded in 1894) is relatively young when compared to other towns in our region, it does boast of a proud heritage. That legacy will be on full display Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11 at the Ahoskie Creek Recreational Complex.
There, a wide assortment of events are planned…from a parade – anchored by Miss North Carolina – to music, to food, to games, etc…there’s something for everyone, from the young to the young at heart.
And what a great time of the year to stage such an event. With cool mornings and nights and sun-splashed afternoons with bearable humidity levels, the dog days of summer are thankfully behind us.
There’s no excuse to not attend Ahoskie Heritage Day.
Worried about finances; don’t be as admission and parking are free. Other than purchasing food or shopping for bargains at the arts/crafts fair, what you’ll actually wind up spending at Heritage Day is time to have loads of free fun.
See you there!
