A trio of local schools will host prep football games tomorrow night (Friday).

Bertie High School, Lawrence Academy and Gates County High School will each enjoy contests from their own home stadiums this week.

At Bertie, first-year skipper Greg Watford welcomes his former team when the Rams of Northampton County High School – East invade Roy L. Bond Jr. Stadium.

Both Watford’s Falcons and George Privott’s Rams will be looking for the first win of the 2010 campaign.

Each school has opened the season with a tough non-conference slate and that continues Friday when the two square off.

Lawrence Academy is fresh off win number one during the 2010 campaign.

The Warriors gave rookie coach Robert Kravitz his first varsity football victory Friday in a 54-20 thrashing of visiting Community Christian School.

Friday’s task is much tougher, however, as Arendell Parrott Academy comes in to Merry Hill with a spotless 2-0 mark after drudging Halifax Academy 43-8 a week ago.

The surprise of the season thus far are the Red Barons of Gates County High School.

Matt Biggy’s club sits 2-1 after the first three weeks of the season with its only loss coming on opening night during a 21-20 setback at Hertford County High School.

Since then, the Barons have upset Pasquotank County High School and defeated Perquimans County High School.

This week the Barons welcome South Creek High School who comes in winless and having scored a single touchdown this season.

Other local teams in action include: Northeast Academy traveling to Community Christian and Hertford County hitting the road at Rocky Mount High School.
