MURFREESBORO – Ridgecroft School’s varsity tennis team suffered a setback here last week.

The Lady Rams lost for the first time this season as they dropped an 8-1 decision to North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association perennial heavyweight Greenfield School.

“I am very proud of our effort,” Ridgecroft Head Coach Elton Winslow said. “The match was closer than the score. We were firmly in contention in seven of the nine matches. We lost a hard-fought match.”

The single win for the Lady Rams came at the number two spot where Katie Futrell defeated Kenan Barnes of Greenfield 8-6. Ridgecroft number three seed Miller Bryant also had an excellent outing. She fell to Lindsey Cox 9-8 (8-6) in a tie-breaker.

Greenfield won a pair of matches by a final count of 8-4. They included fourth-seeded Sawyer Parrish topping Roxie Daniels and sixth-ranked Ellen Cleary topping Amber Bracy.

Courtney Williams secured the win at the number one seed for Greenfield. She defeated Ridgecroft top see Alex Riddick 8-2. In the battle of number five seeds, Madison Tyson defeated McKenzie Quattlebaum 8-1.

In doubles action, Williams and Barnes barely escaped Bryant and Futrell by a final of 8-6.

Cox and Hannah Ferrell then knocked off Riddick and Daniels by a score of 8-4.

In the final match of the day, the Lady Rams’ duo of Quattlebaum and Bracy fell to Parrish and Tyson by a count of 8-4.
