Bertie tennis blanks Pasquotank

WINDSOR – Bertie High School swept Northeastern Coastal Conference foe Pasquotank here Tuesday.

The Lady Falcons’ tennis team grabbed a 9-0 victory thanks to a solid performance from each of the starting unit.

“The girls were excited and so was I,” BHS Head Coach Jackie Copeland said. “We are in something of a rebuilding mode this year and have a lot of young players, but they are coming along quickly.”

Bertie senior Donna Mizelle helped the Lady Falcons to a sweep of the singles matches. She rolled by Kaylyn Clark by a count of 6-0 and 6-2. Third-seeded Haley Williams did just as well for the Lady Falcons with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kathleen Lowry.

Bertie’s top seed, Carmin Villamor, claimed a 6-1 and 6-4 victory over Chloe Ramjohn while second-seeded Sandi Todd rolled over Morgan Pepple 6-2 and 6-1.

Number four seed Kate White secured a 6-3, 6-1 win for the Lady Falcons and fifth-seeded Tori Dunlow defeated Desarae Perry 6-2 and 6-3.

In doubles’ action, the Lady Falcons claimed a win in the number one seed action when Villamor and Todd defeated Ramjohn and Lowry 10-5. In second –seeded doubles, Williams and White grabbed a 5-3 win while Dunlow and Brook Bowen won the battle of number three seeds.

Bertie is slated to host Edenton at 4 p.m. Tuesday in another league battle.
