AHOSKIE – One person is behind bars while another is being sought in an alleged robbery here Thursday night at an Ahoskie residence.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh reported the arrest of Venessa Faye Lee, 45, of 113 Bow Lane, Ahoskie, in connection with the case. Lee was arrested late Friday morning at her place of work and charged with felonious larceny and felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. She was placed in the Hertford County Jail under a $20,000 secured bond.

Meanwhile, the Ahoskie Police Department is seeking a male accomplice in the robbery.

Chief Fitzhugh said the robbery was reported around 10 p.m. on Thursday.

“From the information we have, a lady called a man on the phone and asked to borrow some money,” Fitzhugh said. “He knew this lady to be a home health nurse of his mother.”

Following the phone call, Fitzhugh said the man allowed her to come to his residence, advising her that he would need the money back the next day, to which she agreed.

“Later, he was awakened by a knock at his door and his bedroom window,” Fitzhugh said. “It was the same woman, asking for additional money. He goes to give her the money; she follows and then asks for all his money. She attempts to take his money and he resists. She then called out a man’s name, and a man busted in the house. The victim was assaulted with an object taken from the kitchen and threatened with a knife. His money was taken and both suspects fled the residence.”

Ahoskie Police Lt. Detective Jeremy Roberts investigated. That probe led to the arrest of Lee.
